Below is a joint Armenian-Russian statement on the results of RF President Dmitry Medvedev’s state visit to Armenia. NEWS.am gives the full text:

On August 19-20, President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev was on a state visit to the Republic of Armenia at the invitation of President Serzh Sargsyan.

During their talks the sides thoroughly discussed the present state and prospects of developing Armenian-Russian strategic partnership and alliance, which is based on mutual assistance in dealing with issues involving the two nations’ vital interests. The sides exchanged views on all-importance international and regional problems.

The results of the work aimed to consolidate confidence and understanding between Russia and Armenia, mutually beneficial cooperation meeting the two nations’ vital interests have been welcomed by the two Heads of State.

The visit has been particularly significant due to the fact that it has been paid the year of the 65th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War.

During the visit the sides showed their intention to develop constructive bilateral foreign policy cooperation, cooperation combined efforts within the CIS and CSTO, as well as within international institutions and forums, including the OSCE and U.N., for consolidating universal peace, stability and security. Noteworthy is the Russian Federation’s contribution to the activities of the CIS and OSCE when it chaired the organizations.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan voiced his support for RF President Dmitry Medvedev’s initiative to draft and sign an Agreement on European security, based on the universal security principles for all the Euro Atlantic states.

Russia and Armenia reaffirmed their commitment to the speediest settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict by exclusively peaceful means, on a fair basis acceptable to all the sides, and welcomed the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs’ constructive activities in this field. The sides stressed the importance of the principles of nonuse of force and no threat of force, territorial integrity, peoples’ right to self-determination, which constitute a whole and were reflected in a joint statement issued by the delegations of the OSCE MG co-chairing countries (Almaty, July 17, 2010). RF President Dmitry Medvedev’s contribution to finding politico-diplomatic ways of resolving the problem was appreciated.

The negotiators emphasized the role of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation, which is supposed to give new impetus to Russian-Armenian economic and investment cooperation, direct economic ties between the to countries’ regions. The sides pointed out the priority of further development of cooperation in the energy, transport, communication sectors, mining and processing industries, banking and development of innovation technologies.

The Russian Federation and the Republic of Armenia stated they view bilateral politico-military, as well as military and technical cooperation, as important components of Russian-Armenian alliance. The sides reaffirmed their readiness to give priority to the components.

The Heads of State expressed their satisfaction with the development of humanitarian cooperation and stated their intention to strengthen the two nations’ cultural and spiritual bonds. During the visit, the sides signed intergovernmental agreements on nuclear cooperation and trade missions. The sides also signed an intergovernmental protocol amending the agreement on the Russian military base in Armenia, as well as a memorandum establishing service centers to repair military equipment.

RF President Dmitry Medvedev and RA President Serzh Sargsyan participated in the opening ceremony of the Hill of Honor in Gyumri. The Hill of Honor commemorates the Russian warriors killed in the 19th century.

The Russian and Armenian Presidents are sure that the present stage of bilateral relations opens up new prospects for cooperation, development of ties in all the fields for the two nations’ prosperity, peace, stability and security in the Caucasus and in the whole world.
