YEREVAN. – Accumulation of vehicles at Upper Lars checkpoint on the border between Russia and Georgia has almost disappeared, representative of Armenian Transport Ministry said.
The reason is Armenians living in Russia who were spending summer vacations in Armenia are coming back home. Most of them decided to leave during the last days of summer, and this caused a traffic jam. Several days ago 500-600 vehicles appeared on the road.
The problem should be solved by increasing capacity of the checkpoint on the Russian side, the David Melkonyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
“We have offered Russian colleagues to renew infrastructure and increase the staff give the heavy flow of Armenian citizens and Armenians by origin. The issue has been raised at the level of premiers, ministers, Armenian-Russian intergovernmental commission and Eurasian Union. We are waiting for the answer to our proposal,” he added.
