Russia will defend Armenia from external aggression, but the same cannot be said of Nagorno-Karabakh, Stepan Safaryan, the chairman of the Heritage parliamentary faction, told NEWS.am, commenting on RF President Dmitry Medvedev’s response to a question concerning Russia’s actions in case of threat to Nagorno-Karabakh.
It is one more vague answer to quite a clear question. “The other day the Azerbaijani foreign office issued a reminder of the agreement with Russia that Russian military base #102 located in Gyumri will not be used against Azerbaijan, which arouses concern,” Safaryan said. “I cannot be as optimistic about the statement as some experts and politicians are. The question remains open,” he said.
As to Russia’s specific actions in case hostilities resume in Nagorno-Karabakh, Safaryan pointed out that war is a rather unpredictable thing. “The question remains open,” he repeated.
