On August 23, Armenia marks 20th anniversary of the adoption of Declaration of Independence.

On August 23, 1990 Armenian SSR Supreme Council adopted Declaration of Independence. Under the document, the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic was abolished and independent Republic of Armenia declared. In the September 21, 1991 referendum 94.99% of the Armenian citizens voted for secession from Soviet Union and establishment of independent statehood.

Under the document, Armenian SSR was renamed the Republic of Armenia (Armenia), national flag, coat of arms and anthem was created.
