Georgia has no basis to fear Armenia will jeopardize regional security due to its relations with Russia, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze stated, commenting on RF President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to Armenia and the significance of the signed agreements on the prolongation of Russian military base  in Gyumri and cooperation in the sphere of nuclear energy.

She stressed the main thing is that Armenia completely realized and realizes the threats coming from Russia both in its relations with Georgia and in the regional context. Armenia is well aware of the fact and Georgia has no basis to suspect that the Armenian side will jeopardize regional security, Novosti Georgia quotes Kalandadze.

According to her, traditionally Armenia and Russia closely cooperate and there is an interest in collaboration both in economic and other spheres. Following this, the Georgian Deputy FM considers the documents, signed during RF President’s visit to Armenia, a matter of two sovereign countries.

Referring to the possible Russia’s mediation in Karabakh conflict settlement, Kalandadze said Georgia skeptically views the issue and considers Russian cannot play a crucial role in the peace process.

Russia and Armenia signed a number of documents on cooperation in military sphere and nuclear energy.
