YEREVAN. - Ruben Hakobyan’s decision to leave Armenia’s Heritage party and quit his post of the head of the faction came as a surprise to the party, the party’s spokesman Davit Sansaryan told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

According to Sanasaryan, no discussions with that regard have yet been held in the party, since Hakobyan made the announcement at a late hour.

“He made the announcement at a late hour. I don’t know whether Raffi Hovannisian knows about it or not,” he said.

Head of the Heritage faction Ruben Hakobyan refused to respond to Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent’s question on quitting his deputy mandate.

Hakobyan wrote on his Facebook page: “In the recent period my and Raffi Hovannisian’s approaches in both external and internal, as well as inter-party organizational issues have been radically different, which makes our joint team work inefficient.

I greatly respect Raffi, but I don’t want our political disagreements to negatively impact the political plans of Heritage and, specifically, Raffi Hovannisian.

I quit my membership to the Heritage party and withdraw from the authorities of the head of the faction. Thanks to all Heritage members for our joint activity during the recent years.”
