YEREVAN. - There has been no faction or political force in the parliament which hasn’t taken part in the substantial discussion of the constitutional amendments, Eduard Sharmazanov, Armenian parliament Vice President and ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) spokesman, told Armenian News – NEWS.am today after the RPA Supreme Body session.

According to him, the discussions in the parliament reconfirmed that the majority of the political forces in the parliament was positive about the new draft constitutional amendments and that a political consolidation took place. 

“Political consolidation in the parliament is already a fact. Some forces which were negative about the amendments a few months ago, have now changed their opinion. At least three, even four members of the oppositional Heritage faction were formally positive about the reforms. Formally two members of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) faction and [other] party leaders met with the Armenian President. Prosperous Armenia faction was also positive about the draft. Unprecedented debates have taken place during the recent days,” Sharmazanov said.

The discussion of the new draft Constitution is underway in Armenia’s parliament. The referendum is expected to take place in early December.
