YEREVAN. – The majority of funding for the Erebuni-Yerevan celebrations is made by the private sector, and for the purpose of holding a festivity devoted to the founding of Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia.

Head of the Information and Public Relations Department at Yerevan Municipality, Artur Gevorgyan, told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am. He noted this reflecting on an initiative, according to which the city hall’s budget for holding the Yerevan Day celebrations should instead be allocated toward resolving the drinking water problem of a border settlement in Armenia.

“Let’s not forget that Erebuni-Yerevan is one of the most anticipated holidays of our fellow townspeople,” added Gevorgyan.

Over 3,000 people have already joined a Facebook initiative, which demands the cancelation of this year’s Yerevan Day celebrations and the allocation of the respective money to the border villages of Armenia.
