YEREVAN. – There are no longer controversial items in the final version of the Constitution of Armenia, and as a result, it passed on Monday at the National Assembly with 104 votes in favor.

Ruling Republican Party of Armenia NA Faction member Gagik Minasyan stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Friday, as he presented the changes that were made in the revised version of the proposed draft constitutional amendments.

“[Accordingly,] if the majority does not form a coalition, the other [political] forces can form an alliance and run in this way [in a second round of parliamentary elections],” said Minasyan. “[And] with the new version, solely the parliament [and not also the electors] will elect the President of the republic.”

Pursuant to the new draft Constitution, Armenia will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance, and conduct completely proportional parliamentary elections.

The referendum on constitutional amendments will be held on December 6.
