YEREVAN. - The renovation of the airport nearby Armenia’s northern city of Stepanavan will be completed in 2016, Armen Yeritsyan, Armenia’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situations, said in the parliament today.

Earlier, the management of the airport was handed over the republic’s Ministry of Emergency Situations.

“We have agreed with our Russian partners: We need heavy helicopters – Mi-24 and Ka – 32.  We have [also] agreed that our partners will serve and be on duty here. Apart from this, we are thinking about [obtaining] light aircraft and helicopter and are thus working with Russian, Swiss and French partners. In the long run, we want to have an airport with extended functions,” he said.
