YEREVAN. – The Prime Minister of Armenia, Hovik Abrahamyan, said he voted “yes” in the referendum on constitutional amendments.

Abrahamyan noted that he is voting for our sustainable future and development.

He assured that their team has done everything so that the voting is held freely and transparently.

“We urge our team members to be impartial, not to listen to anyone, not to provide us lip service, and to avoid provocations,” the PM told reporters on location, after he cast his ballot. “Let the people decide ‘yes’ or ‘no’ [to the amendments]”

And reflecting on the reports regarding voting infringements, Hovik Abrahamyan said, as of 11am, he has not heard any reports on any serious respective violations.

The referendum on Armenia’s constitutional amendments is conducted on Sunday.

A total of 1,988 election precincts have opened throughout the country.

Following the independence of Armenia in 1991, the Constitution was adopted on July 5, 1995, which is marked as Constitution Day.

The Constitution was amended in 2005, and the country switched from a presidential to a semi-presidential system of governance.

And pursuant to the currently proposed amendments, the country will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance, and conduct completely proportional parliamentary elections.
