YEREVAN. - Armenian PM Hovik Abrahamyan today received Iran’s Minister of Energy and Co-Chair of the Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission, Hamid Chitchian. The interlocutors discussed the ties between the two countries, work of the Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission, as well as a number of issues related to the regional cooperation.

The PM attached importance to the high-level reciprocal visits between the two countries, which, according to him, contribute to the further development and enhancement of the Armenian-Iranian political, economic and cultural ties. Abrahamyan stressed that following the visit of Iran’s First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri, works on the implementation of joint projects, including construction of Iranian-Armenian 3rd transmission line, have actively continued.

Referring to the development of trade and economic relations, the PM attached importance to the activity of the Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission, development of business ties and holding of business forums.

For his part, Hamid Chitchian gave positive assessment to the work of the Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission session, during which bilateral economic projects and further steps were discussed. The Minister stressed that significant steps were taken last year for the implementation of the Armenian-Iranian projects. He also expressed confidence that the close cooperation and ties established between the governments of two countries will contribute to the efficient and successful implementation of all the projects, as well as realization of different initiatives.

Chitchian also attached importance to the quadrilateral memorandum signed in Yerevan on energetic cooperation between Armenia, Iran, Georgia and Russia, which will create wide opportunities for the development of cooperation in the sphere of energy, ensure economic benefits, contribute to the growth of energy security, etc.

Abrahamyan and Hamid Chitchian also referred to attracting investments in joint projects, Meghri HPP construction project, development of trade turnover and transport infrastructures, as well as a number of issues relating to the deepening of cooperation in agricultural, environmental, tourism and humanitarian areas.
