The perception of Russia has not worsened in Armenia, leading Russian political analyst Mikhail Aleksandrov told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

To the query regarding some anti-Russian trends that currently exist within the Armenian body politic and media, the analyst responded that he receives information about Armenia from a variety of sources. 

“I don’t observe a fundamental worsening in [Armenian-Russian] relations,” Aleksandrov said. “The fact that the overwhelming majority of Armenians were in favor of [Armenia’s] accession into the EEU [i.e. the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union] confirms my words.

“But it’s also true that, lately, an active anti-Russian propaganda is carried out in [Armenia’s capital city of] Yerevan, especially in the press. (…) But as a rule, this is done by people who are linked to various NGOs funded by the West.

“An information war is in progress. First and foremost, it’s against Russia and also its allies. If the connection is torn between Russia and Armenia, Armenia will remain alone, and the enemies will quickly strangle it. So, this is not only against Russia; this is against Armenia itself. Neither London nor Paris nor Washington will defend it.  (…) But I don’t think the Armenians will submit to these provocations.”
