YEREVAN. – The closing year began negatively, and it ended in the same way for Armenia.

Vice-chairman of the board of the opposition Heritage Party, Armen Martirosyan, told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am, as he summed the year 2015 in terms of the country.

“We started the year with a very negative incident; the slaughter of the Avetisyan family [in Gyumri city, and by a Russian soldier],” Martirosyan said. “And during this tragedy, it was best stressed that Armenia has lost the last crumbs of its independence, that justice is carried out here at Russia’s cue.”

The ex-MP, however, considered slightly positive the Armenian youth’s spontaneous rally against the decision to raise the electricity tariffs in the country.

“But it was ineffective,” Heritage’s member added. “And the authorities attempted to use it against the [political] opposition by showing that civil society is everything, opposition—nothing.”

Armen Martirosyan stated that Armenia’s accession into the Eurasian Economic Union, the tension along the Azerbaijani border, and the referendum on constitutional amendments were among the other negative developments for Armenia in the closing year.
