Speaker of the RA Parliament Hovik Abrahamyan held a meeting September 12 with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Tina Kaidanow, who arrived in Yerevan the day before.

The press service of the RA Parliament informed NEWS.am that Speaker Abrahamyan pointed out a high level of Armenian-American relations an thanked the United States for its aid to Armenia. He expressed his willingness to contribute to the development of bilateral relations.

In her turn, Tina Kaidanow made a high appraisal of bilateral relations and expressed hope for further cooperation. In this context she stressed the Parliament’s role. According to her, Armenian-American relations will be developing, and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s visit to Yerevan was impetus to Washington’s intention to develop relations with Armenia in various fields, as well as in the context of regional agenda and the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.

The sides discussed the Nagorno-Karabakh problem. Speaker Abrahamyan stressed that Armenia remains committed to a peaceful settlement of the problem within the OSCE Minsk Group and hailed the USA’s relevant steps. In her turn, Tina Kaidanow expressed her support, pointing out that the peace process must go on within the OSCE Minsk Group, as shifting the issue to other agencies cannot be of benefit to the peace process.

The sides also discussed parliamentary and regional security issues.
