YEREVAN. – The sources of Armenian News-NEWS.am have informed that a person has been detained along the lines of the criminal case into the death of Meri Margaryan, 26, who had died two days after giving birth in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia.

Accordingly, Doctor Sushanik Bakhshyan of the Shengavit district medical center, and whom Margaryan’s relatives blame for her and her newborn’s death, was detained on Friday.

Meri Margaryan, who was transferred from the Shengavit medical center on July 27, 2015, died on July 29 in “Erebouni” Medical Center, where she had delivered a baby through Caesarean section. But, subsequently, she was in very critical condition, and the woman passed away two days later. Even though her baby girl’s life was saved, she was in critical condition, and the newborn died on July 30.

On August 3, a criminal case was launched on charges of not—or improperly—performing medical duties, and which has negligently caused a patient’s death, or human infection with the immunodeficiency virus.
