YEREVAN. – The Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts of Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia, on Saturday released Doctor Sushanik Bakhshyan, who was detained on Friday. 

Bakhshyan’s attorney, Aleksandr Sirunyan, told the above-said to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“The court decided that the decision to detain [her] is unlawful,” he said. “Therefore she was released from courtroom.”

Dr. Bakhshyan of the Shengavit district medical center was detained along the lines of the criminal case into the death of Meri Margaryan, 26, who had died two days after giving birth in Yerevan.

Margaryan’s relatives blame this physician for the death of this young woman and her newborn.

Meri Margaryan, who was transferred from the Shengavit medical center on July 27, 2015, died on July 29 in “Erebouni” Medical Center, where she had delivered a baby through Caesarean section. But, subsequently, she was in very critical condition, and the woman passed away two days later. Even though her baby girl’s life was saved, she was in critical condition, and the newborn died on July 30.

On August 3, a criminal case was launched on charges of not—or improperly—performing medical duties, and which has negligently caused a patient’s death, or human infection with the immunodeficiency virus.
