UNESCO declared Yerevan a capital of the book for next year. However, books are hardly in demand in Armenia now, the MP of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), Chairwoman of the Committee for European Integration Naira Zohrabyan stated in Parliament.

“I do not want speak of the bookshops turned into cafes or greengroceries. I would like to address a specific problem, the Book Palace of Armenia. I recently happened to be there. I can tell you that the Book Palace of Armenia looks even worse than Dresden after bombings during World War II. It is not strange that a large part of the documents was spoiled,” Zohrabyan said. She called on the RA Government to budget funds for renovation works at the Book Palace for next year. “Otherwise I promise you I personally will take guests visiting Armenia to the Book Palace,” Zohrabyan said.
