YEREVAN. - The “Electric Networks of Armenia” CJSC (ENA) must compensate the citizens for illegal surcharges.
MP Edmon Marukyan said the aforementioned in the parliament today.
According to the press, citizens’ power meters shift from daytime to nighttime tariff several hours after established 11:00 pm.
Many citizens start their housework exactly in late hours to save a little (the nighttime tariff is cheaper by 10 AMD). But the counters continue to spin according to a daytime tariff, and the consumers aren’t told about this.
“We have conducted a monitoring in Yerevan tower-blocks, and revealed such a violation in most of them. According to the explanations of the ENA, the reason was the several-hour power cutoff. The ENA is aware of the issue and promises to remove it. But they are not going to return the illegally surcharged money,” Marukyan noted.
According to the rules of the electric power supply and use, the ENA must check the counter calibration at least once a year, Marukyan said.
In these conditions, the Bright Armenia Party (BAP) proposes to carry out the checks monthly.
Apart from this, in his words, the ENA must compensate the citizens for the raised bills. Even if this isn’t provided by the legal acts of the ENA or agreements with consumers, this shouldn’t have any significance here, the MP said.
Finally, the Public Services Regulatory Commission must launch administrative proceedings under Article 42 of the Law on Energy, in order to defend hundreds and thousands of citizens, Marukyan concluded.
