YEREVAN. – The publicizing of the list of weapons, which are purchased from Russia with a soft loan, has nothing to do with the Russian-Turkish tension.

Caucasus Institute Deputy Director, political analyst Sergey Minasyan, assured the aforesaid at a press conference on Wednesday.

He noted this reflecting on the comments that, with the issuing of these lists, Russia is attempting to have some bearing on either Turkey or Azerbaijan.

“It was surprising for everyone why the Russian side has revealed what kinds of weapons it provided to Armenia,” Minasyan said. “In the past, Armenian-Russian technico- military cooperation was such that we [i.e. Armenia] were getting solely used weapons, whereas with the soft loan, modern weapons are provided to us. This is the reason that the list has been made public.”

According to Russian media, Russia is providing Armenia an US$200-million loan to purchase Russian weaponry.

The loan is granted for ten years, and Armenia shall use it by no later than 2017.
