Armenian driver Hrachya Harutyunyan, who has been sentenced to 6 years and 9 months in prison in Russia, has not been diagnosed with any serious health problems posing threat to his life.

Armenian News – NEWS.am learnt the aforesaid from the Russian Embassy in Armenia.

The Embassy informed that upon the order of Armenian Ambassador to Russia Oleg Yesayan, a working group has been set up, which is composed of the representatives of the Armenian Embassy in Russia and other authorized Armenian bodies adjunct to the Embassy. The group got in touch with the administration and medical staff representatives of No 3 penitentiary institution of Russia's Tambov region.  

According to the information, Harutyunyan had certain health complaints and was thus subjected to through medical examination by the local hospital medical staff. According to the doctor's conclusion, he was diagnosed with no health problems threatening his life, there being no need for immediate hospitalization.

The Armenian Embassy to Russia requested the Russian MFA and Tambov's No 3 penitentiary institution to organize the meeting of Hrachya Harutyunyan with the Embassy representatives.

The Russian Embassy in Armenia also informs that they haven't so far received any complaints from Hrachya Harutyunyan or his relatives.

Armenian citizen Hrachya Harutyunyan had pleaded guilty to causing a major traffic accident in Russia. The truck he was driving had crashed into a passenger bus on July 13, 2013 outside capital city Moscow. The impact of the crash was so powerful that the bus, which was carrying 64 passengers, had split in two. The accident had claimed 18 lives and injured more than 40 others.

On August 4, 2014, a Moscow district court had sentenced Harutyunyan to 6 years and 9 months in prison on charges of violating traffic and vehicle operation rules and causing death. And the Moscow Municipal Court had upheld this verdict.
