MOSCOW. - We have complete mutual understanding in the political, economic and military-technical fields, and these relations are developing very well.

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan said the aforementioned at the meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow today, the Kremlin website reports.

“I’m very happy to meet you and agree by one hundred percent that our relations are developing very well. It is actually a good tradition to meet in the beginning of the year to sum up the results of the work carried out during last year and outline objectives for next year. I’d like to thank you for implementing the agreements that we reached during our previous meetings,” Sargsyan stated.

According to him, as a Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) chairman, official Yerevan attaches great importance to the implementation of the decisions which were adopted during September and December sessions of the CSTO.

“We are definitely concerned about the situation in the regions adjacent to the CSTO area of responsibility. As during the December session and my other addresses, I’m once again publicly stating that we firmly support Russia’s position on the Syrian crisis. And, of course, we welcome the ceasefire agreement which you have reached with the U.S.” this may become the key to the political solution of this issue,” Sargsyan said.

The President also noted that the World Chess Candidates Tournament, which is sponsored by the Chess Federation of Armenia, kicks off today.

“We have dedicated the opening to the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s independence. Besides, the civilization exhibition in the State Historical Museum of Russia also opens today, and I’m sure that the Russian citizens will like this exhibition, which will contribute to the enhancement of brotherhood between our peoples,” Sargsyan said.

Touching in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Sargsyan thanked his Russian counterpart for the efforts exerted by Russia towards solving the conflict. “We remain committed to the peaceful settlement of this conflict,” he said.
