YEREVAN. - The general layout of Gyumri, the second largest city of Armenia, must be improved, Armenian Minister of Urban Development Narek Sarsgyan said in the parliament today.

The current layout is already ten years old and it contains a number of problems, many of its provisions being unrealistic, the minister added.

There is a necessity and concrete demand to improve it. According to Sargsyan, this issue has already been discussed with the municipality and regional administration of Shirak.

The incomplete constructions in the city pose a problem, especially in terms of attracting investors, and this issue also needs a solution, he noted.

Sargsyan reminded that pursuant to the program on liquidating the repercussions of the 1988 quake, this year the Government will completely solve the housing issue of Gyumri’s last 230 families put on the waiting list.
