YEREVAN. - The Armenian police have issued an explanation in connection with the recent publication in The Sydney Morning Herald. The article touches on the case of drug trafficking, including to Armenia.  

According to the message of the agency, the Australian police informed them that on 11 December 2014 a suitcase was seized in Melbourne, the false bottom of which hid 2.1 kg of methamphetamine.

In the course of the investigation, Sh. Shahbazi and A. Kazemi - the Iranian citizens who received the suitcase - were identified. The delivery documents were titled in Melbourne resident F. Jafarini’s name.  Charges were brought against Shabazi and Kazemi.

On 15 January 2015, the Australian police seized another suitcase with 2 kg of methamphetamine, which was sent to the same address from Armenia.

The Australian police asked the Armenian colleagues to provide them with all the available information on the given issue.

In early March, the Armenian police were informed of another package sent by an Iranian citizen to Australia, which was supposed to contain large amounts of drugs.

The information was sent to the Australian police, which later confirmed that the package contained 1 kg of methamphetamine.
