The Syrian government army and militias have managed to fight back the historical Palmyra citadel from the ISIS terrorists, SANA Syrian state news agency reported.

At the same time fighters had considerable losses.

The storm of Palmyra began on Thursday. The Syrian army and group of "Desert Falcons" managed to settle in hotel complexes, pushing terrorists to the center of Palmyra, and on Friday — to establish control over one of strategic heights where the tower of mobile communication is located. The storm of Palmyra Castle -- the last height controlled by ISIS -- began in the morning.

Palmyra is known for the ancient ruins and temples which have remained since antique times and are included in the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List. Terrorists seized the city in May, 2015, after that mass media repeatedly reported that they destroy ancient cultural monuments, including the Temple of Baalshamin and famous Arc de Triomphe.
