YEREVAN. – During the funeral of scout and machine-gunner Sasun Mkrtchyan, who had fallen in the four-day war which Azerbaijan had unleashed, Republic of Armenia (RA) President Serzh Sargsyan stated, “We [i.e. Armenia] are under no illusion; we don’t have powerful backers,” Aravot daily newspaper reported.

“The President reaffirmed this notion also in his interview given to German Deutsche Welle TV radio company. This was a quite late, but a direct ‘message’ to RF [i.e. the Russian Federation].

“It is not yet visible what practical steps official Yerevan will take in this direction. But it is clear that the events that developed as a result of Azerbaijan’s savagery also create an obligation to review the foreign political accentuation of Armenia.

“Russia should now be obligated to review its ‘big brother’ policy toward Armenia, and, considering all the layers and nuances of RA-RF relations, this should be the requirement by the RA authorities,” Aravot wrote.
