YEREVAN. – At this phase, Government of the Republic of Armenia (RA) has not approved the draft law on Armenia’s recognition of the independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh).

Gohar Poghosyan, Press Secretary of the Prime Minister of Armenia, noted the aforementioned, reflecting on the said bill at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting.

In her words, the Armenian government on Thursday approved the government’s draft conclusion regarding the bill On Recognizing the Republic of Artsakh, and that this conclusion clearly states that, “the RA government will condition the adoption of the introduced draft law on the results of discussions between Armenia and Artsakh, taking into account further developments, including external factors.”

“Hence, at this phase, the RA government has not approved the bill on the recognition of Artsakh’s independence,” Poghosyan stated.

As reported earlier, the Government of Armenia on Thursday approved its draft conclusion regarding the bill On Recognizing the Republic of Artsakh.

“Recognition of the independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic is due to the results of discussions between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, [and] considering further developments, including external factors.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia made the aforesaid conclusion with respect to the draft law On Recognizing the Republic of Artsakh, and which opposition MPs Zaruhi Postanjyan and Hrant Bagratyan had submitted.
