YEREVAN. - There is no danger in the National Assembly (NA) discussing the bill on the recognition of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) and making a relevant decision.

 Armenian National Congress (ANC) Foreign Relations coordinator  Vladimir Karapetyan said the aforementioned Thursday at the debate on the topic “Possible consequences of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic recognition”.

In his words, the Armenian authorities seem to be giving ear to the proposal of the first President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who during the rally in November 2008 spoke about the right moment for the Armenian NA to recognize the NKR. Following this, it is necessary to send the document to the President’s administration in the established order. “The President’s administration can suspend the process of decision-making and adopt it if necessary,” Karapetyan said.  

During Thursday’s session, the Government approved the conclusion on the bill introduced by two MPs “On the Recognition of Artsakh”. According to the document, “The Government of Armenia will decide on the adoption of the bill based on the results of discussions between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh and considering the further processes, including external factors”. The aforementioned bill must be discussed at the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations during 30 days after its introduction (the term expires on May 19).
