The proposed law on stripping the MPs of their parliamentary immunity, and which was put on the parliamentary agenda several days ago with great scandals, was not put to vote in the parliament of Turkey.
Ever since the news about Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu stepping down, a large part of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) MPs do not come to the parliament, according to Sözcü daily newspaper of the country. As a result, there was no quorum to vote on the said bill that was introduced by the AKP lawmakers themselves.
It is noted that the AKP deputies are waiting for the new party chairman and the PM to be elected on May 22, whereupon they will carry out the said parliamentary voting.
The bill on stripping the MPs of their parliamentary immunity had entered the Turkish parliament upon the directive by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and it is directed against the Kurdish members of the country’s parliament.
