On September 30, the cross was erected on the dome of the Surb Khach Church (Holy Cross) on Akhtamar Island. The cross was installed during several hours, a reliable source in Van informed NEWS.am.

Today, October 1, tourists are prohibited to visit Akhtamar Island.

On October 2, Governor of Van and Armenian Deputy Patriarchate of Constantinople Archbishop Aram Ateshyan are expected to organize an event for the occasion of cross installation.

As NEWS.am reported earlier, on September 19 Armenian Deputy Patriarch of Constantinople Archbishop Aram Ateshyan conducted the religious service in the church. The Turkish authorities refused to install a cross atop the church.
