On Wednesday, Superior Court of Los Angeles considered the case of Victor Petrescu, a 23-year-old man accused of smashing a religious monument at St. Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church, Glendale News Press reported.

In August Petrescu smashed the monument outside St. Mary’s church using a sledgehammer. Despite, Glendale police presented the case as a possible hate crime, the prosecutors settled with the felony vandalism charges. Later, prosecutors amended the complaint to include hate crime allegation.

The judge upheld a felony vandalism charge along with an enhancement for damages exceeding more than $50,000, the source reported.

On October 13, Petrescu will stand trial in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
