STEPANAKERT. - President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh) considers unacceptable the incident which occurred with the NKR National Assembly (NA) deputy Hayk Khanoumyan.

“I consider unacceptable the incident which occurred with National Assembly deputy Hayk Khanoumyan the day before. I strongly condemn any act of violence against a person and a citizen. Violence against the NKR National Assembly deputy - a political figure - gives additional cause of concern.

This incident was a direct blow to the Artsakh Republic statehood, democracy and values shared by us. I am constantly in touch with the law enforcement authorities and am aware of the course of investigation. The process is under my immediate control and I assure that the necessary measures are being taken by the law enforcement authorities to determine all the circumstances of the incident.

I urge to refrain from unjustified assessments and commentaries until the final results of the investigation are ready. All the details concerning the investigation process will be presented to the public in accordance with the procedures and time frames established by  law.

I also keep in touch with the Minister of Health, being regularly informed about the health condition of Mr. Khanumyan, whom I wish speedy recovery,” the President’s statement reads.
