YEREVAN. - The prosecution demanded to sentence the Armenian citizens charged with espionage in favor of Azerbaijan to lengthy period of imprisonment.

Specifically, the prosecutor demanded to sentence Sergey Papoyan to 14, and Rafayel Papoyan together with Karine Gumashyan to 15 years of imprisonment.

Pursuant to the indictment, defendant Rafik Papoyan was recruited in Turkey by the representative of Azerbaijani intelligence service, who called himself Seyran.  Then Rafik’s son, Sergey Papoyan, was involved in the espionage activity. The latter was instructed to become a contract soldier in one of the military units of Karabakh’s Mataghis village. The information was to be exchanged via internet.

Karine Gumashyan was recruited in 2013 and again by an Azerbaijani intelligence service officer, who called himself Arman.

Diana Goroyan is accused of knowing about the acquaintance of Karine Gumashyan’s cousin and Arman, but failing to inform the law enforcement authorities about it, realizing that the activities constituted high treason.
