YEREVAN. -- Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan held a meeting of National Security Council.

The agenda of the meeting included the issue of “biosafety strategy" and other matters.

Council members discussed and approved the project on ensuring biosafety presented the Minister of Health Armen Muradyan. Speaking about the need to adopt such a strategy, the Minister stressed that it derives from the need to coordinate, articulate political priorities and security principles in the field of biological safety, as well as to implement long-term government policies and counter biological threats in accordance with international standards.

The main objective of the strategy is to improve and strengthen bio-security system, neutralize internal and external threats, as well as to reduce the risks of biological threats to humans and the environment.
