If the problem of the status of the Armenian churches is not raised, the visit of the Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II to Georgia is of no sense, Chairman of the Javakhk compatriotic union, MP from Republican parliamentary group (RPA) Shirak Torosyan told NEWS.am.
“It is two years since he has intended to visit Georgia. There are rumors he will arrive in Georgia in late October. However, a representative of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin could not specify the issue at a press conference several days ago, whether Karekin II will visit Georgia or if the problem of the Armenian churches will be solved. The talks are underway, however it is not clear yet whether it is a secular or business visit. I think Karekin II should visit Georgia and solve at least one problem. Otherwise, Catholicos of All Armenians and Holy See of Etchmiadzin will lose their authority in Javakhk,” Torosyan said.
As NEWS.am reported previously, on October 23-28, Karekin II will visit Georgia. He will have an opportunity to discuss the problems of the Armenian churches and prospects for their solution.
