The death toll during the military coup attempt in Turkey has risen to 60, informed the Ankara Prosecutor’s Office.

Forty-two of them were killed in capital city Ankara, the Turkish media reports.

In addition, around 150 injured were taken to hospitals in Istanbul.

There is no information yet on the number of injured taken to hospitals in Ankara.

Anadolu news agency reported that the supporters of the military coup opened fire on civilians outside the parliament and the General Staff buildings, in Ankara.

It is noted, however, that the intensity of gunfire near the parliament building has reduced.

On Friday evening, media reported about a military coup attempt in Turkey. Military vehicles appeared on the streets of Ankara and Istanbul, and there were shootings and explosions.

A group of Turkish military officers announced about seizing power to restore constitutional order, and ensure human rights and freedoms in the country. 

Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım stated that the ongoing developments are unlawful.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared that the coup attempt failed and it will be completely suppressed.
