An unknown person has stolen the sculpture of the Armenian saint Gregory the Illuminator from a workshop. The author of the sculpture is the national artist of Russia of Armenian origin Friedrich Soghoyan, the source in the Russian law enforcement authorities reports.

On Sunday, August 7, the son of Friedrich Soghosyan turned to the police with a statement on that a gypsum sculpture of Gregory the Illuminator authored by his father was stolen from the workshop at Uspensky Avenue in Downtown Moscow.  

In his words, the crime was committed in the night of Thursday to Friday. The law enforcement authorities assessed the cost of the sculpture at 120,000 rubles.

The press-service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed the fact of the incident, noting that the police are checking the incident.  “At about 12:40 a.m. on August 7, a citizen turned to the police with a statement that an unknown person stole the gypsum sculpture at Uspensky Avenue. Check is being conducted into the incident, as a result of which a procedural decision will be taken,” the duty officer said, RIA Novosti reports.
