It is inappropriate to include Azerbaijan’s supporter, Turkey, in the neutral group of negotiators which in interested in the actual settlement of the Karabakh conflict,Turkologist Viktor Nadeyin-Rayevsky told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

In his words, Turkey is the side which helps Azerbaijan. “Exactly the Turkish militaries prepare Azerbaijani Special Forces, exactly the Turkish militaries are in the headquarters and Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan.  Of course, we cannot consider Turkey as a neutral state in this issue. Therefore, the Turks’ participation in the Karabakh conflict is inappropriate,” Viktor Nadeyin-Rayevsky said.

Touching on the recent statement of the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on the similarities between the Russian and Turkish offers on Karabakh, the Turkologist noted: “I think this is top flight optimism. The only similarity so far has been that both sides are interested in ceasing the conflict. I don’t yet see other similarities.”

According to Viktor Nadeyin-Rayevsky, the issue of negotiations is that of ascertaining the positions. “This is an issue, which can in no way be solved by Russia alone. The normalization issue always concerns both parties to the conflict. And, actually, there cannot be a final version of actions without the decision of the Armenian side,” Nadeyin-Rayevsky concluded, stressing that the Armenian side has no wish to engage Turkey in the Karabakh conflict settlement.

As reported earlier, touching on the Karabakh issue, the Turkish FM Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu specifically said: “When considering Russia’s proposals, we see similarities with our offers addressed to Armenia. We will make our contribution to the solution of Karabakh conflict.”
