Greek-language classes to resume in Armenia village

YEREVAN. – The teaching of Greek will resume in the schools Greek-populated Yaghdan village in the Lori Province of Armenia. 

Arkadi Khitarov, Chairman of the Union of Greek NGOs in Armenia, told about the aforementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“We want to restore [Greek-language] classes for schoolchildren on Saturdays; [but] it’s not easy,” said Khitarov. “For that reason, the [Greek] community [of Armenia] thanks the Greek government, which continues assisting us during difficult times for the country.”

At present, Greek is taught in Armenia at Sunday schools. The classes are held in capital city Yerevan as well as in Gyumri, Vanadzor, Stepanavan, and Alaverdi towns.

“We are holding classes in Vanadzor three times a week,” added Arkadi Khitarov. “We hope that we can begin classes in Yaghdan in the fall. And the center in Vanadzor will definitely be kept.”
