Both Armenians and Greeks suffered from Turks, Greek President Karolos Papoulias said during the meeting with Armenian Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan.

He appreciated centuries-old Armenian-Greek friendship, saying the countries are linked by common history. Karolos Papoulias expressed regret about Turkey’s failure to follow German’s lead and apologize to Armenians, as Germany did for Holocaust. He expressed confidence that Serzh Sargsyan’s forthcoming visit to Greece will further expand bilateral ties. Speaking of the Karabakh issue, Greek President stressed importance of peaceful resolution of the conflict within OSCE Minsk Group.

In his turn, Hovik Abrahamyan stressed that the Armenian-Greek cooperation is an important element of Armenia’s European integration process. The Armenian Speaker noted that level of trade and economic cooperation between the states does not comply with real potential.
