The Van Fortress, which is considered one of the well-known fortresses of the Kingdom of Urartu—which corresponds to the biblical Kingdom of Ararat, has been put on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage temporary list.

Several fortresses, bridges, and mosques in Turkey have been put on this list, reported Turkish state-run TRT radio and television.

The Van Fortress and the famous Pre Batman Bridge, in Sason district in the Batman Province of Turkey, stand out on this list.

The Van Fortress was founded by King Sarduri I of Urartu, from 835 to 825 BC.
