YEREVAN. – The main reason for appointing Karen Karapetyan as the Prime Minister of Armenia is that, from the formal point of view, he was not a participant in the current system of governance in the country.

Caucasus Institute Deputy Director, analyst Sergey Minasyan, said the abovementioned at a press conference on Wednesday.

In his words, the Armenian authorities’ systematic marginalization of the political forces has led to the fact that societal discontent in the country is manifested by way of the radicalization of approaches.

“He [i.e. Karapetyan] is considered a new man, outside the system, who received a carte blanche from the president of the country,” Minasyan noted, in particular.

But as per the analyst, the main problem which the new PM and government will face is the fact that this carte blanche—or the need for change—which the President or the ruling power imagines, does not coincide with the radical expectations of the society and the opposition camp.

“And only time will tell whether or not the expectations will be met,” concluded Sergey Minasyan.
