Contract soldier Narek Patatanyan, who died Friday at a Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh) Defense Army military unit, was from Charentsavan, Armenia, and the eldest child of his family.

Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned that Narek was drafted into the army in January, and he had celebrated his birthday several days ago.

His 17-year-old sister had recently gone to the US to study. She has been informed of her brother’s death, and she will return to Armenia late Sunday night.

The soldier’s wake will be held on Sunday, and he will be laid to rest on the next day, in his hometown.

The NKR Defense Army press service had informed that serviceman Narek Patatanyan, 19, sustained a fatal gunshot wound on Friday at around 1pm. Patatanyan was mortally wounded in an Artsakh defense army central control military unit, and under yet unclear circumstances.

An investigation is underway to find out the details of this incident.
