YEREVAN. – Single foreign citizens will not be able have children from surrogate mothers in Armenia.

The aforesaid is specified in the draft amendments to the Law on Person’s Reproductive Health and Rights, which the National Assembly of Armenia approved on Thursday.

The respective bill passed by a vote of 107 for, with no against and abstentions, the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter informed from Parliament.

Pursuant to this proposed law, however, couples can make use of this right. But at least one of them needs to be the biological parent of the child.

Unmarried couples likewise can have children from surrogate mothers in Armenia. In this case, however, at least one of them, or the one who is an Armenian citizen, shall be the biological parent of the child.

In addition, being a surrogate mother will be permitted solely twice in Armenia. 

And the child shall be given to the biological parents only after a DNA test to prove the child’s blood relation to the parents.
