YEREVAN. – The annual DigiTec Expo exhibition of information technology (IT) kicked off Friday in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia (PHOTOS). 

President Serzh Sargsyan attended the official opening of the event. Subsequently, he watched the display panels and got familiarized with the accomplishments of the ITs and engineers of the country.

As per Karen Vardanyan, Executive Director of the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE) of Armenia, large-scale demonstrations of defense designs will be introduced in this year’s DigiTec Expo.

“We wish to show that the high technology being created in Armenia can contribute to the defensibility of our country,” stated Vardanyan.

“We are very happy for this much dynamic development of the IT sector,” noted, for his part, Vahan Martirosyan, the newly appointed Minister of Transport, Communication and Information Technology of Armenia. “And we believe that its role in the country’s economy can be even more important.”
