YEREVAN. – The second annual meeting of the Armenian Internet Governance Forum (ArmIGF 2016) kicked off Wednesday in Yerevan, the capital city of the Republic of Armenia (RA).

Vahan Martirosyan, the Minister of Transport, Communication and Information Technology (IT) of Armenia, attended the opening of the two-day event, the ministry informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In his welcoming remarks, Martirosyan noted that this forum is a good example of effective cooperation among state-run, public, and private organizations.

“The RA government has declared the further development of the IT sector as one of the priorities of the country’s economy,” noted the minister, in particular.

Michael Yakushev, Vice President of Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), for his part, stressed that Armenia is a leading country in Internet governance.

And Frédéric Donck, the Internet Society Regional Bureau Director for Europe, noted that Internet access needs to be boosted in all layers of society.
