The elections in Georgia’s Akhalkalaki Municipality are held in tense climate.

Activist from Georgia’s Armenian-populated region of Javakhk, Norayr Karapetyan, told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am, commenting on the voting process at the parliamentary elections in the republic on Saturday.

At the polling station in Akhalkalaki’s N 4 school, the voters were forced to cast ballot in favor of the authorities (Georgian dream coalition).  “Personally I am not in the town now, but according to the information which I receive, the situation is complicated there,” he added.

Prior to the elections, the local authorities visited people’s houses and asked who they were going to vote for, Karapetyan noted.

The struggle for victory in Akhalkalaki constituency is mainly between Georgian Dream nominee Henzel Mkoyan and United National Movement candidate Arsen Karapetyan.

“Of course, there are other strong candidates too,” the activist added.

Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on Saturday. 100 deputies will be elected by proportional election system (through party lists), majority system being applied with regard to the other 50.
