YEREVAN. - No construction of new wind farm is expected in Armenia in the coming 1-2 years, Armenian Minister of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources, Areg Galstyan, said in the parliament Thursday.

According to him, in mid-2000s one company (Armenian-Italian Arenenergy company) began studying wind energy in Karakhach passage in the country’s north.

For several years the company measured the wind power, but then its methodology proved to have become obsolete. It is necessary to check the power of the wind at a greater height (80 m) and measure more parameters.

In Galstyan’s words, Armenia does its best to attract investors. Since 2014, the Government is ready to purchase power from wind plants not for 15 but 20  years. “No other country in the world has such a long term. Thus, the incentive is quite significant. I hope investors will get interested in this,’’ the Deputy Minister added.
