YEREVAN. - The Executive Body session of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) on Thursday addressed the issue of changing the program and regulations of the party.

The Spokesperson for RPA, Eduard Sharmazanov, told the aforementioned to journalists during the briefing after the session.

“It has been proposed that the Executive Body make amendments to the program. These proposals have not yet been finalized; the discussions are [still] underway. By the end of the week the changes related to the regulations and program of the party will be clear,” Sharmazanov said.

According to him, the changes don’t concern domestic and foreign policy.  

“New provisions regarding human rights and national ideology will be added, this still being under discussion. The Republican Party is conservative, but if you expect it to become liberal or social-democratic, [I can assure you that] such thing will never happen. It will be oriented towards national preservation.  Our program changes will somehow be related to the new challenges and role, which the Armenian political parties will henceforth play. We don’t suppose radical changes, but - as a conservative force - we are adding new strokes to the basis of the eternal and lasting, which will help work more efficiently,” Sharmazanov noted.

He also informed that the issue on PM Karen Karapetyan’s joining the RPA hadn’t been discussed, urging not to be surprised if a thing like that happens or the other way round. “Don’t be surprised if he joins [the RPA] and or if he doesn’t and chooses to stay non-partisan,” he noted.
