YEREVAN. – The capacity of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will be expanded in Armenia.

The draft for the respective amendments was approved at Thursday’s Cabinet session of the Government of Armenia.

The written government explanation in this regard notes that this decision was made proceeding from the ICRC activities in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh), since 1992.

The Red Cross considers the key issue to be the rendering of assistance to persons under difficult humanitarian situations, and regardless of the status of territories. 

The ICRC conducts monitoring also in the Nagorno-Karabakh zones that border Azerbaijan.
